Backless Bar Stools
asked:
Backless bar stools have a lot of advantages and should be considered when you consider updating your current furniture. When I refer to backless stools, I am also including those stools that have a semi-back. The semi-back bar stools have a 3 to 5 inch curled lip at the back of the seat. This semi-back is more for appearances than function as it does not provide any type of back support.
Bar stools come in all shapes and sizes and versions. The standard heights are 24 inch and 30 inch. The seats are either static or swivel. At times the swivel seat is also adjustable for height. The material for constructing the seat can range from metal to wood, to hard plastic to a resin. The stools can be hard seated or upholstered.
In general terms, stools without backs tend to be slightly cheaper than those with backs. These stools are also lighter and easy to move around or to tuck under the bar when not in use.
My preference for backless bar stools, is that they tend to have a light and airy feel to them. They are visually less obtrusive than stools with backs. Stools without backs allow for an unobstructed view. While an unobstructed view is not important in all cases, it is critically important at times. Often bars are set looking over a deck or bay or ocean, in these cases backless stools are the preferred choice.
The backless version is also good for providing seating in smaller spaces. The visual impact is more pleasing as the presence of a back makes a tall stool even more visually imposing. If you have a small space such as a breakfast nook, you would be well served by at least considering a backless bar stool. The only disadvantage to having having a back is comfort.
One of the best places to begin a search for new bar stools is online. There are literally hundreds of distributors that provide colored pictures and specifications for their products. There are also many information sites that can answer some of your questions. If you really cannot decide on what type of stool suits you best, you can always ask a local store if you might take a few different varieties homes. If you leave a deposit, I’m sure most stores would accommodate your request.
When purchasing new stools, you owe it to yourself to consider buying backless bar stools.
